Heilmeier Awards Committee in Penn Engineering has selected Professor Vivek Shenoy from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as the recipient of the 2019 Heilmeier Research Award.
This award is named for our late alumnus and Advisor, George Heilmeier, whose many technological contributions include the development of liquid crystal displays. The distinction associated with the Heilmeier name has set very high standards for this award.
The Committee was asked to identify from among several worthy nominations the most scientifically meritorious work that also had high technological impact and visibility, and they selected Vivek “for his pioneering multi-scale models of nanomaterials and biological systems.” The Committee also noted Vivek’s strong leadership qualities, research focus and high-impact funding as the Director of the NSF Science and Technology Center for Engineering MechanoBiology.
A lecture and reception honoring Vivek will take place on April 10 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM in the Wu and Chen Auditorium, Levine Hall.
